Snow report St. Anton

Snow Report St. Anton

09.12. 2017

Currently mostly good manageable danger spots.
Beware of fresh snowdrift! It continues very turbulent!Winter has already got us under control. By new snowfall from 08.12. on the 09.12. with mostly powerful high winds have build more snowdrift accumulations. The danger still changes between moderate and considerable, but due to the increase in danger spots today for North Tyrol on a “low” 3 above the tree line. The susceptibility of fresh snowdrift accumulations speaks for a 3, the size of the danger spots in the newer snow-poorer regions rather for a 2 …It is not so important the danger level, it is much more important to recognize fresh drift snow in the area and to know that this can usually be triggered in the steep terrain already by low load. This is increasingly possible in shadow slopes and increasingly near the ridge lines. In the sunny, very steep terrain, a weak layer of angular crystals was also observed in an altitude range between about 2000m and 2300m and above about 2800m below a thin crust (danger pattern cold on warm from 25.11.). Radiation and heat influence on 07.12. has had a positive effect in the meantime. The snowpack should be there, if only to disturb under heavy load.

30.11. 2017

Fresh snowdrift accumulations make up the main danger
A cold front brought from 29.11. on the 30.11. new snow. All over fell between 10 and 20cm. At below average low temperatures, the wind was blowing with middle speed.
This creates new snowdrift packages. These are often stored on a snow surface, which consists of loose, partially reconstructed crystals. As a result, fresh snowdrift packages are sometimes quite easy to trigger. This situation is for higher altitudes in very steep terrain, preferably behind terrain edges, near-ridge terrain and in gullys.
Stability studies show that deeper layers within the snowpack are currently hardly considered as possible weak layers:

This most likely applies to shady, high alpine terrain (above about 3000m, preferably on glacier ice). There you will find crystals close to the ground. Most snow is already quite compact and sometimes strong bounded. This reduces the susceptibility to interference . For sunny terrain, the steepest terrain above about 2800m is most likely to be affected, where possible weak layers have developed in the area of crust.

25.11. 2017

Snow, cold temperatures and wind create fresh, snowdrift accumulations.
Today on 25.11. approaching cold front with snow and sometimes stormy wind. At the moment, we can observe strong south wind at the automatic weather stations, which according to the ZAMG weather service will turn west to northwest with the cold front. We expect between 10 and 30cm of fresh snow on the mountains. Snowfall, cold and wind lead to a classic slab snow situation, which becomes more relevant with increasing the altitude. Danger spots are found in very steep terrain, near the ridge line, in gullys and behind terrain edges. Limited visibility can complicate the hazard assessment.

20.11. 2017

Strong wind builded lots of slab snow. Avoid fresh drift snow as much as possible in very steep terrain.
The higher you get, the more brittle the snowdrift becomes and the easier it is to trigger slab avalanches. Frequently, even in very steep terrain, even by one person. With good experience danger areas are easy to recognize and can be good avoided

19.11. 2017

In the non-glaciated terrain mainly good snowpack. Main danger full snow depth slide, fresh, snow drift near ridges and high alpine terrain in very steep shadow slopes
Snow cover examinations and stability tests show a predominantly stable structure in non-glaciated terrain. Possible weak layers are found only occasionally, if then most likely in near-surface layers. On the one hand it may be snowed in hoar frost in shady terrain (not directly exposed to the wind) (for example in very steep gullys). On the other hand could be below rocks on some places, graupel.
What’s next: Changeable with some perticipation. Important appears the predicted, partly stormy wind. The result will be fresh snowdrift packages. Especially at higher altitudes, these represent a potential hazard, but they should be easy to spot.

14.11. 2017

A cold front brings snow and storm.
Snowdrift at higher altitudes and gliding snow on grass slopes.
From 11.11. on the 12.11. it has snowed in the Tyrol, most in the west of the country with 20-30cm above about 2000m. A cold front brings according to information from the ZAMG weather service in the night hours from 12.11. on the 13.11. snow again. In total, it will be 30-50cm with emphasis in the west and north of the country like the Arlberg. In the short term, it will be stormy on the mountains, with the wind strength will decrease during the snowfall. Based on our previous snowpack information, we can assume that this is usually quite compact. That’s why “only” a fresh snowdrift problem will develop there, increasingly at higher altitudes, very steep terrain and behind terrain edges. With some experience, these danger areas can be easily recognized.

02.03.17. Snow report St. Anton

20 cm of fresh snow yesterday and 20 cm in the last 12 h. Nice conditions today. Above 1600 meters the powder was very nice. We accept a sunny day tomorrow and lots of good touring.

28.02.17. The winter is coming back. Snow forecast St. Anton

We skied some nice powder and spring snow in the last days. It was very important to know the conditions very well because timing and exposure was everything. In the next days we will get about 50cm of fresh snow and we look forward for amazing off piste conditions and ski touring.

19.02.17. 20cm of fresh snow on Friday – 20 cm to come Snow report St. Anton

In the last weeks we had very good ski touring conditions with very nice powder on the north exposure. The coming week is very changeable weather with fresh snow and sun.

31.01.17. 40 cm of fresh snow in the next 24 hours

In the last weeks we had had amazing ski touring conditions. The snow pack stabilized  very well and the tension disappeared  in the middle altitude. The weather system is changing now and more snow will come to the alps. So we look forward for some amazing powder weeks and super off piste conditions in the next days.

19.01.17. Sun, sun, sun

The next day will be very sunny so the snow layers can bound better together and the avalanche risk level will decrease even more.

We are looking forward for some ski touring in the next days.

13.01.17. Snow report and snow forecast St. Anton

The next low pressure will bring lots of snow from the north west to the alps. For The Arlberg is more than one meter on the forecast. So there will be lots of tree skiing in the next days.

11.01.17. Snow report St. Anton

Over night it snowed 5 cm with very little wind. So the snow is very light und super easy to ski as long as your skis are waxed properly :-). North exposed above 1800 is sugar snow underneath which make the snow pack very easy to trigger. So staying in flat terrain is the only thing which work here or you change to the sunny side where there is just gras underneath. I did that yesterday down from the from the Knödelkopf back in to the Verwall. It was super to ski. More snow comes in the next days and the wind will increase so the game starts again :-)

09.01.17. How much did it snow St. Anton

In the last days it snowed about 100cm. Mainvasen and Mainplatt on the Galizig down to St. Anton are already good to ski. Above the tree line are apart from the considerable avalanche danger good conditions. The sugar snow underneath are a perfect sliding layer. It will snow more in the next days and we are looking froward for some safe  powder lines.

05.01.17. Snow report and forecast St. Anton

It snowed all day long. Below 2000 m fall about 50 cm and it still keeps snowing. Tomorrow it will be a perfect powder day but dont forget the blue Skiwax for super cold.

04.01.17. Snow report and forecast St. Anton

It was snowing like hell this morning. When we moved up to the Galizig it cleared up and we went down to Stuben. The south facing slopes down to the Albonagrat were amazing. On the north side it is a little bit different. Huge slab snow pillows behind the convex terrain shape. We skied the most defensive line down and it was surprisingly good to ski. In the middle part it is necessary to side slpie trough the rocks. It will snow about 50cm over night :-)

03.01.17. Snow report and forecast St. Anton

Above the tree line it snowed already 10cm and above 2000 m about 15 cm of fresh snow. We did lots of touring today around Stuben. The best snow conditions are on places where the slope is flatter than 30° with compact snow underneath. There is no danger to break throw the old sugar snow layer and you can ski relative easy without hitting any rocks. Tomorrow the  situation is a little different because it will snow over day the the visibility will decrease. Schafgliger would be a good option but it really depends which lifts are open. In the next days will come about 70 cm of fresh snow. The wind makes it in one hand slaby but in the other hand it will fill up the holes with snow and build up a big snow pack in the gullys. It will take just several days to stabilize. We are positive to have some grat days skiing ahead.

02.01.17. Snow report and forecast St. Anton

The next winter storms are just around the corner. People keep asking where it is good to go after the first snow fall. I would say on slopes where it is hard snow pack underneath. Certain lines in Stuben will be good. Valluga will take several week to stabilize. The biggest danger danger will be the rocks which are just a little bit covered. So you need to know where they are. Lets stay updated in the next days i will post now more regular the snow report from around the Arlberg and St. Anton.

31.12.

The last snow fall on the 25th  was just very little and in the lower altitude it rained. But as I said the weather will change over the new year and now it seams like that it really will happen.
The first snow fall will come on the 2nd of January and it will be enough to have some powder on the flat slopes sun exposed. On the 7 th of January we can still hope for a bigger snow fall almost a powder alert.

23.12.

The reliability increased for the snow report and forecast for 25.12. There is a storm coming from the north. Most of the snow fall will be in the austrian part of the alps. The Arlberg will get about 30 cm of fresh snow.

22.12.

The snow forecast for St. Anton is very uncertain. The austrian weather service Zamg says, that the weather is changing in the next days. In the night from Thuresday to Friday it is already a little precipitation on the  Vorarlberg side of the Arlberg ski resort. After that the next snow fall is reported on the 25 of December. The pistes are in amazing conditions. In St. Anton are pretty much all top lifts open yet accept the Riffel 2 on the Rendl and the Tbar on the Kappal. The new Flexenbahn is amazing to go over to Zuers, no ski bus needed any more. Even the Zürsersee chairlift is open yet.

Lets do a snow dance for a big dump. Happy Christmas everyone!

Franz

19.12.

The piste skiing conditions in St. Anton are excellent. Off piste it is a little bit more tricky :-) . I went up to Valluga and check out the snow pack there. It will take several weeks till the snow foundation will stabilize or a huge snow fall that will clean the face. The other places in St. Anton look better because the altitude is not so high and the temperature gradient was much lower. The weather forecast will stay dry the next days. After christmas is some more snow on the way.

15.12. Snow forecast St. Anton

In the last couple of days it looked like that the weather stays very dry till Christmas. Now the snow forecast from the Austrian avalanche service is forecasting a possible weather change for Sunday the 18th of December 2016.  The 96h snow forecast for St. Anton prognosticated  about 10 cm of fresh snow from.

Out of topic but very informative.
Avalanche accident in in Obergurgl near Sölden.

10 persons, guided group walked in the Verwalltal which is just next to Obergurgl.
In the back of the valley the group did a snow profile and decided to walk further with big safety distance. Just after that they heard a snow noise (whum). Immidiatly after for persons got caught in an avalanche. The avalanche broke very high above the group and developed to super fast and very powerful.

The reason was the old snow problem in the high alpine regions.   The weak layer was thin sugar snow laying on a compact layer from September.

27.11.2016

Andi Thurner walked up to Schindlergrat and reported 20cm of fresh snow above 2000 meters. In the next days the weather is getting very cold and St. Anton will have a good season opening 2016.

25.11.2016

Since the last update we had constantly strong wind from the south the 0 degree line was constantly at around 2500 meters.
The developing in the snow pack is mostly positive. High temperatures stoped the transformation in to hoar frost. The snow back is far wide with out any tension except in the very high alpine regions above 27oo meters. On Sunday is coming cold air from the north little fresh snow is expected. The temperatures stay cold in the next days till the middle of the week.

18.11.2017 Snow forecast for the next 2 days
The Arlberg ski resort will get about 30cm of fresh snow above the tree line.  The temperature is increasing in the next days with lots of wind influence. The next big weather change will be begin of December with dropping temperatures and snow fall even down to the valley.

17.11.2017 Snow report St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort.

We already had several big snow falls. Because of the constantly changing temperatures the snow pack is stabilizing quite well. It is already possible to go on ski tour.

„Skitouren in Tirol“ reported hundreds of snow hungry skier walked up to Axamer Lizum to get done the first turns in the „white gold“. Good early winter conditions on the Daunkopf in the Stubaier Alps

18.03.2016
Still very good powder high up north and the spring snow is transforming very quick already.
We walked up Gstansjoch which is from the Vorderer Kaltenberg in the back of the big bowl. From the very top it would be possible to ski down on the other side but the snow was to sun effected over there so we decided to ski back in to the Maroital. Amazing day with super nice clients.
I am already focused to get in shape for my climbing projects….

09.03. 2016 Snow report Super conditions for ski touring
We went up to Hochkar which is from the Hinter Rendl about 1 hour to walk. The ski down goes all the way to the Supermarket in St. Jakob. It is probably the best skiing terrain i know and a pure pleasure. I could do it everyday …. :-)

07.03.2016
Below 2300 meters super stable and amazing conditions. We did fresh tracks all day long one yodeler followed the other.

29.02.2016
Very flat light over the Arlberg we skied over the Mitterkar in the Malfontal which was a very good test how well i know this run :-). In the afternoon we skied the good vis on the Rendl north face.

26.02. 2016
Super nice powder all over the resort. Above 2500 meters are lots of slab snow spots wich are easy to trigger.

15.02.2016
Snow over night And sunny over day. Perfect conditions since the last two weeks.

22.01.2016
Fantastic conditions
Amazing snow conditions for off piste and ski touring in the Arlberg.
In the last three days we got lot’s of super light and fast hero powder.
To have better conditions is almost impossible.

St. Anton snow report + 100cm
Lot’s of snow came in the last days. Very good condition between the trees. The top sections were closed the last days

03.01.2016
+30 cm of fresh snow
It snowed almost the whole day at the Arlberg. The avalanche risk level increased dramatically. I think above the treeline we will have risk level 3 in the next days.

03.01.2016
25 cm of fresh snow in the last 24 hours And more is on the way

29.12.2015
Spring snow on the Maroikopf. And some kind of powder on the Knödelkopf and the Beuschl in Stuben.
From the Knödelkopf south would be some nice spring snow. But it is a long way back up.
For very fit tourer the best would be the direction of Gstansjoch or Kaltenberg. I can give you a soft snow guarantee there.
The best is you pick a line above 1900 which can bring you back to the piste.

18.12.2015
Below 2200 you can expect spring snow skiing if you have clear nights.
We did a little extended column test just below the Maroikopf. The new snow in the high alpine terrain fell on a week layer. We are not sure if it was surfes frost or something else because we didn’t have a magnifying glass with us.
The column broke after the third hit from the wrist. Which is a sign for a weak snowpack. With the warm temperature the the conditions will stabilise quite quick. The disadvantage will be the wet of the snow and small self releasing avalanches in the middle altitude.

12.01. 2015 Snow report St. Anton and Stuben 20cm of fresh snow
Perfect conditions in the middle altitudes. Above 2500 the snow is very wind effected and havely loaded.

Ski touring from Lech to Zuers
Just perfect conditions from top to bottom. So #walktopowder

06. 01. 2014
Nice powder with compact snow underneath in Stuben.

05.01.2015
Over the Weekend was lot’s of participation in the Arlberg ski area. On the Galizig was about 40 cm of snow fall. Unfortunately it rain very high up so that below 1800 meters is a rain crust. In the higher altitude is the snow quality better but the slab snow from the weekend is just a little bit covered with new snow and not easy to see the danger spots. Yesterday afternoon it snowed about 10- 15 cm which was very nice to ski!

30.12.2014
We got again 20 cm of fresh powder last night. We look forward for some more overnight and on the weekend. I will keep you posted

10.02.2014
In the last 72 h we got about 30 cm…
….of fresh snow.
The off piste conditions on the weekend where excellent. Powder all over the place and very little wind. This morning the conditions changed a bit. On some parts of the mountain is the snow wind effected. We skied Hinter Rendl, Vorder Rendl, Valluga, Rauzhänge and Schweinströge on Schindler grat in very nice off piste conditions. Accept the very bottom of the Pazieltal down from Valluga had very uneven snow pack.
Avalanche risk level 2 + 3

29.01.2014
How amazing was this day – just perfect
Powder all over the place
My clients called the quality of snow: this is the austrian cocaine 🙂 . We skied Maroikopf to Langen over Kaltenberger and top part of Langen trees in just perfect conditions. Valluga was also fantastic. In the next day we will get some more snow!
Avalanche risk level 3
Snow forecast: there is a front coming from south. St. Anton will get about 20 cm

Powder alert= increasing avalanche danger
We skied Mainvasen, Mainplatt, Schöngraben, Rendl north face and Schimmeleck
I was quite surprised, yesterday avalanched the whole run from Schimmeleck in to Vorder Rendl by self releasing. So take it easy in the next days on the sector north.
Avalanche risk level a very hot 3
Snow forecast: always little bits of snow in the next days

25.01
20 cm of fresh snow – super nice conditions
We skied Rauzhänge, Maroikopf- Kaltenberghütte- Langen and Knödelkopf in hero powder:-)
The snow was very little wind effected so the snow was very light and amazing to ski. In the afternoon increased the wind in Stuben from West and there where al ready little snow drifts with the potential to get bigger over night .
Avalanche risk level 2 and 3
30 cm of snow in the next 72 hours

40 cm of fresh snow in St. Anton
Snow report St. Anton – powder alert!
We skied Mainvasen, Mainplatt, Schöngraben, Schimmeleck and it was soooo nice
Above the tree line was lots of wind influence over night. So there is in the typical lee zones way more than 50 cm of slab snow. Over night we will get more than 20 cm again:-)
Avalanche risk level a very hot 3
20 cm of snow in the next 24 hours in St. Anton

In the last 24 h it snowed about 20 cm
We skied Schafgliger, Schindlergrat, top of Schöngraben in very nice contions
Below 2400 meters was the snow just very little wind effected. Above 2500 meters is enough snow in combination with wind influence to trigger fresh slab snow avalanches by a single skier.
Avalanche risk level 2
About 20 – 30 cm of fresh snow on sunday and monday

50 cm of fresh snow over the weekend in St. Anton.
The weather is changing the direction and it will hit us from north west. With a little bit of luck we have next week the famous Galzig powder days.

10 cm of pixi dust in the last 24 hours
To day was all about skiing not to steep
Than it was really nice to ski and actually super easy conditions
We skied Gaißleger, Starwars and some other off piste runs in Stuben
The avalanche situation relaxed a little bit compare to 2 days ago. The warm temperatures where very positive for hard and brittle slab snow which could bound a little better.
Avalanche risk level 2
The „big snow is coming on Friday“
we look forward for 50 cm of fresh snow in St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort. 🙂

Snow report St. Anton Hochkar ski tour
Very windy in the last days
Most of the off piste runs are wind effected.
But there is always powder in St. Anton!
We walked up to Hochkar and skied down the west face in very nice powder:-)
I had a look in to the entrance of the north slope. The north slope looks very scary 🙂 lots of slab snow in the higher steep parts and self releasing slab snow avalanches in the middle of the slope. This run needs definitely time to recover.
After the Hochkar westface we traversed over to Rendl Alm. It is just possible to access it over the path way. ON the higher traverse is not enough snow to get over the 3 meter high snow fence. On the flat parts at Rendl Alpe it is very nice to ski.
Avalanche risk level 2 and 3
Snow forecast for St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort in the next 24 h – 15 cm

10cm of fresh snow over night
Very nice off piste skiing conditions above the tree line.
The south wind increased quite a lot over day. And there are fresh snow drifts in the high altitude. These fresh slab snow parts are very easy to trigger
Avalanche risk level 2 and 3
Snow forecast for St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort in the next 96 h – 20 cm

In the last 24 h about 20 cm of fresh snow
Watch out fresh slap snow in high altitude on runs which where just very little skied in the last days
Avalanche risk level 2
Snow forecast for St. Anton in the next 96 h – 20 cm

Above the tree line is no reason to complain.
Hero snow – 10cm powder from the Maroikopf over the Kaltenberghütte down to Langen.
In the next day’s the situation will change we have lot’s of snow forecasted for St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort. With the participation the avalanche danger will increase as well. Lot’s of fresh slab snow will cover old slab snow parts (like Valluga). So if you are not 100% familiar with the snow pack in St. Anton on the certain run’s it is better to stay on piste, at home or take a guide.
Avalanche risk level 2
Snow forecast for St. Anton in the next 48 h – 30 cm

Super nice powder after walking up to Rossfallscharte…
and skiing down in to the Malfontal to Pettneu. I had a little look around the other runs. Rendlspitze in to Malfontal is not really possible. The long traverse to the right is not skiable. The bottom part of the Mitterkar has enough snow to ski on the top of Mitterkar must be amazing powder. Even the Hochkar was skied to day. But it is on the limit, there you are really skiing in the mentioned danger zones in the avalanche report
Avalanche risk level 2
No snow forecast for St .Anton in the next 48 h

Very nice ski touring conditions :-)
We skied the Valluga north face and down in the direction of the Erli Alm. To be honest the conditions on the Valluga north are not the best. Very little snow pack in combination with hard slab snow parts and sugar snow just beside of it. The Valluga north face is just possible with very little groups. Or you do huge safety distance but than the run is from the line finding very complicated for the clients. Anyway. After the Pazeiljoch where very good conditions in the lange Hang. The Antenne was fantastic as well.
Avalanche risk level 2
No snow forecast for St .Anton in the next 48 h

20 cm of fresh snow on the weekend
The snow fall line was just about right 🙂
St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort got about 20cm of fresh snow. Over day increased the wind from south west and simultaneously the temperatures increased in 2000 meters up to 4°. Anyway, on the clean north slopes like in Stuben, E and NE is still very good powder and super nice to ski.
Avalanche risk level 3
No snow forecast for St .Anton in the next 48 h

5cm to 10 cm of fresh snow over night in Stuben
In those days it is all about where you are going.
We skied in very nice hero powder down to the Kaltenberghütte and on the left side along the summer way down to Langen.
Very nice snow in the Kühtäli on Sonnenkopf. The bottom part is ok through the bushes.

Very little wind and super light powder on Schindler, Schafgliger,….
On the Stuben, Zuers and Lech side it was still foggy and snowing. The conditions should be good above the tree line in the next days. Watch out for increasing wind in the next days because the avalanche situation can change very quick

More snow is coming in the next days ( 20 cm)
The off piste conditions recovered very good compare to last week. The best conditions right now are in Stuben and Zuers. It is possible to ski the typical Stuben runs like, Gaisleger all the way to the village. Of course the last 100 vertical meters are a little bit a bush fight but it is ok. The off piste runs from Rendl down to St. Anton are still not possible.

Snow forcast for St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort
20cm of fresh snow in the next 48 h

The avalanche risk level above 1800 meters is still very tricky.
All concave slopes are heavily loaded with slab snow which is very easy to trigger. Everything steeper than 35° in the north sector is relative high potential of slab snow. I really recommend to ski super defensive around the steep spots.
Two persons in the Mattun tried to ski steeper and released a slab snow avalanche

20 cm new snow above the tree line
Very wind effected in St. Anton much better in Zuers
The avalanche risk level above 1600 meters quite high. All convex slopes are heavily loaded with slab snow which is very easy to trigger. Good skiing is on flat parts with no rocks underneath.

No perticipation in the next 72 h

In the last 48h it snowed about 30 cm in the Arlberg ski resort. The increasingly strong wind’s and very cold temperature has moved up the avalanche risk level above the tree line.
Temperature at 2000 meters – 12°
Temperature on Valluga -16°

Lot’s of snow in the last 24 h. Let’s hike up Valluga and ski to Zuers 🙂
And more is coming in the next day’s

We skied some nice spring snow turns on the Lange Leite in Stuben and walked back up to the Albona lake. From there we skied the star wars ventilation shaft run and back to the piste. Star wars is in ok conditions. The snow is frozen up and it is not a breakable crust. So relativ „easy cheesy“.

To be honest, I have seen worse 🙂
Search for less wind effected shade slopes in high altitude. On Rendl and the Albona north face is everything wind effected and not so nice.

Snow forcast for St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort
50cm of fresh snow in the next week

Over night 5 cm of „pixi dust“
On off piste runs with soft snow underneath quite nice off piste conditions
Where to find soft snow with pixi dust on top?
On places where it wasn’t much skied before. Like some runs on the Maroikopf, places in Stierloch, Antenne,….. Basically on runs with cold temperature and lot’s of shade.

Snow forcast for St. Anton and the Arlberg ski resort
There will be a significant change in the weather system in the coming week. Thursday and Friday we will get about 50cm of snow. If we are lucky it can be even more. With the strong snowfall will increase the avalanche risk level. But for long term over the season the risk level will recover again.

One some places nice powder
Maybe in the next days it is already possible to ski some spring snow.
The avalanche risk level will decrease in the next days more and more.
Watch out on steep slopes like the Knödel NE face. In runs like this is lots of slab snow and still possible to trigger by one person.

60 cm of fresh snow are fallen on the top of Valluga. This could be the best season start since many years. The next big dump will reach St. Anton on the 10. 11. 2013. :-)))))

This year the first snow came very early.
In mid of October it snowed down to 800 meters. Above 2000 meters more than 1 meter fresh snow was fallen.
The next snow front is moving over Austria an another 30 cm will come above 1600 meters. The season forecast in St. Anton looks great.
Thanks for reading the snow report from St. Anton am Arlberg, Stuben, Zuers and Lech

Critical snow pack in higher altitude. The very strong west wind from to day builded lots of fresh snow drift accumulations. The fresh snowdrifts are very easy to trigger and will break very easy. The most difficult situation was found on Rendl NE down to Hinter Rendl and Vorder Rendl. Here is a very uneven snow pack in combination with a weak layer on the very bottom.
Avalanche risk level: 2+3
Snow forecast: 20 cm in the next 48 h
Weather in general: A strong to stormy westerly airstream inside of which disturbances from the Atlantic are embedded is moving over the Alps until Friday.
Outlook: Slightly increasing avalanche danger due to snowfall and wind

What a day! After Pfanne as „warm up“ (for the level 3 and 4 groups) we moved over to Zuers. Perfect snow and no tracks where found in Gamsroute, Erzberg. Nadelrinne was still not skied today. In the afternoon we went to some super steep lines trough the Langentrees and over the Waterfall route from Maroikopf down to Langen. The lower levels practised skiing technique in Stuben next to the piste, in Schafgliger and other spots next to the piste

Watch out the super steep lines in Stuben. From the Maroikopf NE back to the resort happened a huge slab snow avalanche (self release). Yesterday in the afternoon broke a second avalanche on the Knödelkopf E side. Both avalanches are self released and supersize.
Avalanche risk level: 2+3
Snow forecast: 20 cm snow on friday
Weather in general: An intermediatae high has reached the Eastern Alps, providing generally sunny skies. However, the clouds of a warm front are rapidly approaching from the west. On Friday there will be snowfall and freezing rain. Following a short phase of tranquility, the next disturbance will arrive on Sunday. Light to moderate high altitude winds from west to northwest.
Outlook: No significant change in the situation.

The fresh snow from yesterday stabilized quite good and the powder was excellente to ski. Except the slopes in Stuben with lots of wind influence. In Milchböden, Schafleger, Schafgliger, Langentrees about 30 cm settled top quality powder. On some sunny spots is the snow all ready sun effected.
Watch out the super steep lines in Stuben. From the Maroikopf NE back to the resort happend a huge slab snow avalanche (self release).
Avalanche risk level: 2+3
Snowforcast: 50 cm snow on saturday and sunday
Weather in general: An intermediate high is approaching from the west, slowly pushing the clouds away or dispersing them. In western regions of North Tirol, in South Tirol and in the south of East Tirol, sunshine will soon dominate. In the Lower Inn Valley of North Tirol, the cloud might persist for longer.
Outlook: No significant change in the situation.

In the last 24h St. Anton got about 40 cm of snow. On the StChristoph side there was about 60cm. The big amount of snow increased the avalanche situation quite a lot. The problem is that the general avalanche danger is still 3 which is correct. But people think avalanche risk level 3 is middle avalanche danger. But its not!
Avalanche risk level 3 means: that one single person can trigger out an avalanche on a danger spot of the mountain.
Above 2000 m is on certain spots a very uneven snowpack.
Avalanche risk level: 2+3
Snow forecast: 20 cm in the next 20h
Weather in general: By Wednesday morning, 10 to 20 cm of snowfall is expected, most of it on the Arlberg and in the Lechtal Alps to the Karwendel and Rofan. Temperature at 2000 m; minus 6 degrees; at 3000 m, minus 12 degrees. Moderate northwesterly winds, stronger in high alpine regions. Tomorrow, the northwesterly airstream will be penetrated by a high. On Thursday, an intermediate high will dominate before a warm front brings precipitation from the west on Friday.
Outlook: Strong northwesterly winds will give rise to new snow drift accumulations at high altitudes.

What a surprise!
Overnight we had 20cm very light powder snow. So we skied Schöngraben, Mainplatt, Mainvasen,…. in perfect conditions.
Above 2100 m is on certain spots a very uneven snowpack.
Avalanche risk level: 2+3
Snowforcast: in the next 30h about 20 cm powder
Weather in general: By Tuesday morning 10 to 20 cm of new fallen snow is expected, most of it around the Arlberg. Temperature at 2000 m: minus 4 degrees; at 3000 m: minus 11 degrees. Strong westerly winds in most regions;
Outlook: The danger spots: on west to north to east facing slopes above about 2200 m.

Well the spring snow conditions are back again and where perfect all day long.
Weather in general: An intermediate high pressure system dominates the weather today, but will weaken by tomorrow. The high altitude air current will shift to southwesterly and wetter air is anticipated.
Snow Forecast:
Perfect spring snow
Avalanche risk level 1
Favourable backcountry touring conditions, daytime rise in avalanche danger
Outlook: Daytime rise in avalanche danger

Today it took a while that the sun was coming out. With the strong humidity the spring snow was in the lower altitude not really compact. But nice flat runs like Milchböden, Rossfall, Kaltenberghütte and Schimmelegg where good to ski.
Weather in general: The high pressure system which has dominated weather for the last few days is being pushed westwards. A low pressure system dominates over eastern Europe. Tirol is wedged between the two, in a northwesterly air current. Tonight and on Saturday night, cold fronts will arrive.
Snow Forecast:
Little snow the next days
Avalanche risk level 1
Favourable conditions, daytime rise in avalanche danger
Outlook: To start with, no significant change in avalanche danger, as temperatures drop and it snows. Caution urged towards small snowdrift masses in ridgeline areas.

This is as good as it get‘s. Perfect spring snow all over the mountain (right timing). And powder without walking one meter!:))))))
Weather in general: a high pressure system perched over the British Isles determines Tirol’s weather today. On Thursday, a northwesterly air current will arrive in the wake of a low over eastern Europe, weakening the influence of the high. On Thursday night, slight perturbances are anticipated.
Snow Forecast:
PERFECT SPRING SNOW
Avalanche risk level 1
Favourable conditions continue, slight daytime rise in avalanche danger
Outlook: Ongoing highly favourable conditions, slight daytime escalation of avalanche danger

From Rendlspitz down to the Rendlscharte perfect Powder (hidden line;))). In the Mitterkar and Rossfall was very good spring snow.
The spring snow run from the Rendlspitze has lots of old and frozen tracks. Because this run was skied to late in the day (the snow was to soft). So please lets wait a few days and the Rendlspitz spring snow will recover.
Weather in general: Tirol lies in the field of a dominant high pressure system centered over the British Isles. The air is very dry and quite mild. Not until the latter part of the week will this high weaken noticeably.
Snow Forecast:
PERFECT SPRING SNOW
Avalanche risk level 1
Outstanding conditions for backcountry tours, slight daytime rise in avalanche danger
Outlook: Highly favourable conditions continue

Perfect spring snow!
Weather in general: A high pressure system extending from the North Sea to the Balkan peninsula dominates Tirol’s weather currently. Over the weekend this will weaken, the variability and tendency towards showers will increase, but the high will reassert its dominance next week again.
Snow Forecast:
PERFECT SPRING SNOW
Avalanche risk level 1
Caution urged towards fresh, small snowdrift accumulations in high alpine regions
Outlook: Springlike conditions will continue, daytime rise in avalanche danger

Still perfect powder on certain parts of the mountain like: Wirt, Valluga, Maroikopf,….
The sun was very strong today so the spring snow is transforming very quick. Tomorrow will be some very good spring snow all ready like Milchböden, Rendlspitz, Lange Leite, have FUN!!!!!
Weather in general: A high pressure system extends from France across the Alps to the Balkan peninsula, the air masses are generally dry. Only in the uppermost layers of the atmosphere is some moister air moving in from the south as a result of a high-low over the Iberian peninsula.
Snow Forecast:
PERFECT SPRING SNOW
Avalanche risk level 1
Caution in high alpine areas: fresh snowdrift!

The Powder is back!
Super nice powder on all runs above the tree line. Tomorrow the powder will be limited on the north exposure of the mountain. Like Valluga, Stuben north face, ……..
Weather in general: The high pressure system is increasing its influence, the air masses are becoming drier. This high will dominate in Tirol for the next few days, accompanied by light foehn winds; in southern regions the air will be moister. Weather developments over the weekend are still uncertain, but the high will probably weaken.
Snow Forecast:
No snow forcast the next 72 Hours
Avalanche risk level 2
Moderate danger of loosely packed, surface avalanches
Outlook: Springlike conditions, daytime rise in avalanche danger

The best spring snow conditions since years!!!!
Weather in general: Tirol still lies in the path of a powerful high pressure system stretching from northern Spain over western and central Europe as far as the Baltic Sea. This high will slowly forfeit its strength over the weekend and light foehn wind will arise.
Snow Forecast:
Best spring snow
Avalanche risk level 1
Superb backcountry touring conditions, daytime danger to rise slightly
Outlook: Ongoing favourable conditions, including daytime rise in avalanche danger

The spring snow is getting every day better.
From the Kreuzjochspitze down to Kappl and back in to the Malfontal was still perfect powder and not one track;)))))
Weather in general: Tirol is in the path of dry air masses and a powerful high pressure system above western Europe. Even the moisture near the ground is expected to dry out. This high will dominate through the weekend.
Snow Forecast:
Best spring snow
Avalanche risk level 1
Favorable backcountry touring conditions, danger rising during the day
Outlook: Favorable conditions will continue, avalanche danger linked to the daytime cycle

Perfect spring snow on Rendlspitze, Pazieltal in the afternoon, Michlböden,…..
Down to the Erlialm was perfect powder and no tracks.
Weather in general: A high pressure system centered over western Europe will dominate our weather for the next few days, the temperatures rising a bit more each day. On the weekend, light foehn winds are possible.
Snow Forecast:
Best spring snow
Avalanche risk level 1
Favorable conditions, danger corresponds to daytime warming cycle
Outlook: Ongoing springtime conditions. Starting out early rewards skiers and freeriders with terrific firn snow on sunny slopes.

Powder on Valluga, Maroikopf to Kaltenberg Hütte, Gampberg to Hinter Rendl, Antenne, …..
Weather in general: A perturbance is slowly withdrawing, a high pressure system is regaining the upper hand today in the Upper Inn Valley and as of Tuesday throughout Tirol. The northerly foehn wind in East Tirol is weakening. The high will bring pleasant, springtime conditions for several days.
Snow Forecast:
Best spring snow in 2 days
Avalanche risk level 2
Caution urged towards fresh snowdrift
Outlook: Springtime conditions are increasing, bringing danger levels corresponding to the daytime warming cycle

This was one of the longest yodeling i had ever done!
The conditions in the Kühtäli on Sonnenkopf where just perfect. The Powder was super light and from top to bottom minimum 40 cm deep. Deep Powder was skied today in Stuben, on the Valluga and Antenne.
Weather in general: On the heels of a cold front, a high is pushing forward from the nearest part of the Atlantic. This high cannot yet dominate the weather, but will provide intermediate improvements until tomorrow. On Sunday and Monday, a low pressure system from the north will move in. As of Tuesday, the high will finally win the upper hand.
Snow Forecast:
Snow on Monday – 20 cm
Avalanche risk level 2
Moderate avalanche danger widespread – Beware fresh snowdrift
Outlook: Diminishing danger of dry avalanches. Increasing danger of full depth avalanches.

Perfect powder and sunshine all day long.
Today we skied Valluga, Antenne, Knödekopf, Gamperberg lines, Maroikopf over Kaltenberger Hütte and further to Langen,….
On the sunny slopes the snow got sun influence today. Tomorrow it will snow again. So we are having two potential sliding layers for dry slab avalanches. First we have got the wind effected powder on certain spots of the mountain which is still not very good bonded with the old snow layer. Second on the sunny slopes is the surface very slippy in combination with the fresh sow in the next days this exposure is a potential avalanche zone as well.
Furthermore, full depth snow slides are still possible, especially in eastern to southern to western aspects.
Tomorrow, Thursday, a cold front will move in from the northwest, bringing snowfall down to low lying areas in North Tirol, and northerly winds on the southern flank of the Alps. On Friday, a weak low pressure system will dominate, temperatures will drop. On the weekend, a high will move in from the west and temperatures will rise somewhat.
Snow Forecast:
Snow on thuresday – 20 cm
Avalanche risk level 2
Avalanche danger is moderate in general

20 cm Powder!
Overnight we had again a few centimeters of fresh snow. We had great skiing on the Valluga, Schindlergrat, Hinter Rendl, Antenne, Gaißleger, Kaltenberghütte.
Avalanche situation:
The wind influence on the snowpack was very little. Just in Stuben where a few snow dunes. In case of intense solar radiation, furthermore, surface avalanches of loosely packed snow can be expected tomorrow.
Weather in general the low pressure system over Italy is gradually losing its influence in the Alps, weather conditions are improving. On Wednesday, an intermediate high will follow. On Thursday, a new perturbance and snow fall.
Snow Forecast:
Snow on Thursday – 20 cm
Avalanche risk level 2
Caution towards snowdrift in high alpine regions!

The winter days are back.
Last night it started snowing and the spring snow from the last days froze very well.
The snowfall was stronger on the south sides of the Arlberg ski resort. So it snowed on Rendl up to 20 cm, on Schindlergrat the fresh snow was just a few centimetres.
Weather in general: The cold front of a low pressure system centered over the Benelux countries will traverse Tirol today.
A partial low is now forming over Italy which will bring precipitation to the southern flank of the Alps. On Tuesday, weather conditions will improve.
On Wednesday, an intermediate high is expected.
Snow Forecast:
Snow on thuresday – 30 cm
Avalanche risk level 2
Full depth snowslide danger at low and intermediate altitudes

Snow report St. Anton, Stuben, Zuers
Good powder in the morning!
Very good powder on the Valluga, Rendlspitze, Rogalspitze, Antenne,…. .
Snow Forecast:
No Snow the next 48 h
Avalanche risk level 2
Moderate danger – Caution on steep, shady slopes – Beware full depth snowslides
Outlook: The daytime warming cycle plays an ever more important role in avalanche danger

„Hero snow“ all day long.
10 to 20 cm fresh snow over night and beautiful sunshine – thats perfect days?!
Perfect powder on Valluga, Erzberg, Knödelkopf, Gaißleger,….
In the sun exposed parts the snow will be very crusty tomorrow. I think in a couple of days we have fantastic spring snow. But before we have to do the „POWDER job“.
Snow Forecast:
No Snow the next 48 h
Avalanche risk level 2
Daytime rise in avalanche danger – Numerous loose-snow avalanches on sunny slopes!
Outlook: Continuing danger of full depth snow slides, particularly at low and intermediate altitudes

Conditions are relative.
Today was one of the best days in one of the best seasons since i can remember…:))))))
Very good powder in the Valluga north face, Langentrees, Antenne, Kühtäli,…..
Weather in general: A high pressure arc extends from the Atlantic over Tirol all the way to Russia. The air masses are dry and are turning increasingly mild. The next weather perturbance will arrive on Thursday.
Snow Forecast:
No Snow the next 48 h
Avalanche risk level 2+3
Considerable and moderate avalanche danger levels
Outlook: Avalanche danger continues to diminish

Super light powder!
It snowed again over night. In Zürs, Stuben and Lech where about 20 cm fresh snow.
The snow was fallen with absolute no wind influence and was just perfect.
So we skied Valluga North, Valluga West, Nadelrinne, Gaißleger, Starwars, Gampberglines, Rossfall,…..
Tomorrow the sun expo. will be sun effected very soon.
Snow Forecast:
No Snow the next 48 h
Avalanche risk level 3
Treacherous avalanche situation, considerable avalanche danger widespread
Outlook: Avalanche danger is slowly diminishing

What a day!!!
Perfect snow, sunshine and just perfect conditions made this day unforgettable.
We skied fresh tracks in Schöngraben, Hinter Rendl, Gampberg, Milchböden, Gaißleger, Pfanne, Starwars,…..
In the Stuben north face is the snow wind effected. In the sun exposed parts will be a crusty layer tomorrow.
Some skiing tourist skied the very steep parts ( > 45° ) skiers left the Schimmeleck in to Vorder Rendl. All the slopes broke. Thanks god nobody was buried.
Snow Forecast:
20 cm powder on Sunday
Avalanche risk level 3
Treacherous situation – considerable avalanche danger widespread
Outlook: Avalanche danger will recede only gradually

On days like today its not easy to find words for it because they are almost unreal.
On Rendl where very good conditions today. The whole Rendl north face is skied out and had a very stable snowpack. Jungbrunntobel and Zwischenabfahrt in the morning had powder up to the face.
Surprisingly stable where the Gampberg shoots. The „scandinavian avalanche patrol“ :))) skied pretty much every line.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 72 hours no snow fall!
Avalanche risk level 4
High avalanche danger widespread above 1600 m
Outlook: Avalanche danger is expected to decrease only slowly

The big powder is back!
It snowed all day long and the conditions became better and better every run.
But with the big amount of snow the avalanche risk level was increasing above 1500 meters up to 4.
Even the Mainvasen in the next days is not a good idea. In the Mainvasen is a big full snow depth slide which is pretty much over the whole run.
Tomorrow afternoon it will clear up so take it easy and observe the „closed because of avalanche danger“ signs.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 12 hours more than 50 cm POWDER!!!!!!!
Avalanche risk level 4
Generally high avalanche danger
Outlook: Naturally triggered avalanches are expected to diminish, but thoroughly treacherous conditions continue to prevail for backcountry tours

Even after three weeks we had the last big snow fall the powder lines still exist.
On the Rendlalpe where still untracked lines. On the Valluga we had 10 cm fresh snow and in the Jungbrunntobel it was very good as well.
The next days the situation will change significantly. Lot‘s of fresh snow will come and the top sections of the Arlberg resort will be closed.
The avalanche danger will increase up to risk level 4
Explanation of avalanche risk level 4:
The snowpack is poorly bonded on most steep slopes.
Triggering is likely even from low additional loads on many steep slopes. In some cases, numerous medium-sized and often large-sized natural avalanches can be expected.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 36 hours more than 50 cm POWDER!!!!!!!
Avalanche risk level 2
Snowdrift accumulations above the treeline are the major danger
Outlook: Tomorrow: snowfall and wind, significantly escalating the avalanche danger, presumably to Level 4, High

Fast snow and super powder on the Valluga.
It was still a little bit snowing the last day‘s. So on some places in the Arlberg ski resort we had excellent conditions. Good conditions where as well in the Nadelrinne, on the Michböden, Rendl Alm, Lange Leite,…….
Snow Forecast:
Wednesday next big snow fall.
Avalanche risk level 2
Moderate danger above the treeline – Snowdrift still requires caution
Outlook: Tomorrow will be like today, then the situation will deteriorate significantly

After the arctic temperatures on the Valluga we had to stop in gasoline station in Zuers for a typical Austrian workman snack: A 16er Blech (Beer) and a Leberkäsesemmel (roll with liver loaf). Good snow conditions where found in the Fuchsloch in Lech and on the Rendl in the Gampberg lines. Next week on Tuesday is the next big snow fall. So we look forward for the typical Galzig powder days.
Snow Forecast:
Tuesday next big snow fall.
Avalanche risk level 2 + 3
Backcountry tourers, beware: fresh snowdrift can be easily triggered
Outlook: The rule of thumb: consequently avoid snowdrift accumulations

Super powder in the „Verborgenes Kar“ and on Scharkopf.
Yesterday the sun was already quite strong. So on the south exposed parts is the snow crusty. In steeper spots this hard crust will be a avalanche sliding layer in combination with the fresh snow which is forecasted the next week Tuesday. Over night we can expect up to 10 cm fresh snow.
Snow Forecast:
20 cm in the next 48 days
Avalanche risk level 2 + 3
Main danger is still fresh, trigger sensitive snowdrift
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche situation, but new snowdrift masses will accumulate

From the Valluga down to Erlialm i did a double jodler;))))
The ski touring conditions are perfect and there are still lots of runs which are completely untracked.
Super good off piste conditions where below the Roggalspitze, on the Antenne and in the Zugrinne.
With the warmer temperature today the snow was much faster to ski than the last days.
Snow Forecast:
20 cm in the next 48 days
Avalanche risk level 2 + 3
Caution urged towards fresh, often trigger sensitive snowdrift masses
Outlook: The primary hazard is still from fresh, but easily discerned, snowdrift accumulations

Perfect powder on the waterfall below the Sulzspitze, on the furthest north slopes of the Malfontal and Antenne in Zuers.
The strong east wind is building up fresh slab snow parts. On certain spots where all ready skier realises. Even little self realising avalanches where seen in the higher altitude where the fresh slab snow is laying on hoar frost.
Snow Forecast:
20 cm in the next 3 days
Avalanche risk level 2 + 3
Above the treeline, avalanche danger is considerable widespread
Outlook: Freshly formed snowdrift accumulations are the primary hazard

Beautiful sunshine and powder all day long.
On the Antenne was perfect powder as well in the Nadelrinne in Zuers and the Pazieltal.
The Valluga north is getting compact snow conditions now. The east wind from the last days builded up on certain spots fresh slab snow parts which are easy to trigger out. The typical example is the complete north face in Stuben.
Snow Forecast:
No snow the next 4 days.
Avalanche risk level 1 + 2
Caution urged towards small, easily triggered snowdrift accumulations above the treeline
Outlook: As wind intensity increases, new snowdrift masses will accumulate

Again fall overnight 10 cm of fresh snow.
The visibility was very good and the snow perfect.
So we skied the wonderful untracked powder down to Erlialm and went back to Zuers.
Good snow was as well on the Valluga, on Maroikopf down to Langen, Guggissattel in Zuers.
On the Knödelkopf NE was a slab snow avalanche triggered out by a skier. 20 meters wide and 50 meters long was the slide. On some parts of the mountain is the snow from the east wind under tension. So the chance to trigger slab snow avalanches is increasing the next days even with no new snow. The fresh slab snow is because of the cold temperatures very brittle.
Snow Forecast:
Little snow fall is the next day’s possible
Avalanche risk level 1 + 2
Beware fresh snowdrift accumulations
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche situation

Over night fall again 10 cm fresh snow.
The visibility in the morning was good on Rendl north face, Schöngraben, Törli, Jungbrunntobel, Pagatobel and Zwischenabfahrt. So we could ski full speed through the bushes and trees and enjoy the steep and narrow lines.
In the afternoon was the Valluga well worth to go.
On most of the places the tracks where covered and the scenery was fantastic with all the pixie dust.
Snow Forecast:
Little snow fall is the next day’s possible
Avalanche risk level 1 + 2
Caution urged towards fresh, small snowdrift masses
Outlook: Beware fresh snowdrift

On some runs of the mountain it was sunny to day and on other parts it snowed out of the fog .
So we skied Malfontal, Große Sulzspitz waterfall and Rossfall with blue sky and perfect powder.
And on the Rendl north face, Hochkar, Schöngraben and Schimmeleck there where 10 cm of fresh snow on a soft base which was lot‘s of fun to ski.
Snow Forecast:
Little snow fall is the next day’s possible
Avalanche risk level 1 + 2
Generally favorable touring conditions – Beware fresh snowdrift
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche situation

Good visibility and nice powder in the morning, tree skiing in the afternoon.
There was a very big cloud layer over St. Anton to day.
Just above the Galizig it was a beautiful nice sunny day.
So we did a long morning where we skied Valluga, Maroikopf, Antenne, Starwars and next to the Valluga t- bar lift was for the level 1 still nice powder to find.
Snow Forecast:
Little snow fall is the next day’s possible
Avalanche risk level 2
Avalanche conditions are generally favourable
Outlook: Light snowfall will not affect the avalanche situation significantly

The Russian high pressure guarantees blue sky and cold snow.
The off piste runs are very quiet that even in the Pazieltal down from the Valluga run are very good off piste conditions and lots of space for fresh tracks. We found the same situation on the Antenne, Lange Leite on the Maroikopf, Nadelrinne and Michböden.
We look forward for awesome touring conditions the next day‘s and lots of fresh tracks in steep lines;)))).
Snow Forecast:
Little snow fall is the next day’s possible
Avalanche risk level 2
Favourable touring conditions – Beware full depth snow slides
Outlook: Favorable touring conditions continue, but caution: full depth snow slides

In the Nadelrinne in Zürs i had to day the best conditions i ever experienced in this run.
The snow was just sticking on the steep lines between the rocks and the quality of the powder was just amazing.
We skied as well Valluga north, Antenne down to Pazieltal and Knödelkopf.
On all runs was super nice powder.
Snow Forecast:
Little snow fall is the next day’s possible
Avalanche risk level 2
Favourable conditions continue – Beware full depth snowslides and snowdrift accumulations
Outlook: Amidst very little new fallen snow, the avalanche situation is not expected to change significantly.

What a day!
We had a fantastic day. There was powder on Rossfall, Mariokopf to Langen, Maroikopf to Verwall, Starwars and pretty much everywhere in the resort.
After 12.00 the temperature was rising. South exposed runs will be all ready sun effected tomorrow.
Snow Forecast:
Next 72 h 30 cm of Powder!
Avalanche risk level 2
Generally favourable conditions – Caution towards full depth snowslides and fresh snowdrift
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche situation

My best skiing day ever“ The fresh snow from yesterday stabilised on the Rendl very good. So we could ski Hinterrendl, Schimmelegg, Rendl north face, Gampberg to Hinterrendl, Hinterrendl and Rossfall.
On the Rossfall where the best conditions i ever experienced on this run.
On the Schöngraben broke every single SE exposed slope on the convex part at the top with the crusty layer underneath. Those slopes are steeper than 40° and not recommendable anyway.
Snow Forecast:
Next 4 day’s little snow fall expected.
Avalanche risk level 3
In regions of heaviest snowfall, a briefly treacherous situation
Outlook: Avalanche danger is slowly decreasing

Again, powder alert in St. Anton.
Overnight 40 cm of powder was fallen. On the Galzig side was the snow above the tree line a little wind effected.
On Rendl north face and Schimmeleck was the powder super light and stable.
Watch out tomorrow in the higher altitude with the fresh slab snow on the lee sides of the mountain (Hinter Rendl, Gampberglines, Schöngraben, …..).
Snow Forecast:
Next 4 day’s little snow fall expected.
Avalanche risk level 3
Avalanche danger will continue to escalate during the day
Outlook: General avalanche danger will recede again presently, but loosely packed avalanches are increasingly expected from craggy terrain.

Close to the trees are often the nicest lines.
After the rain from yesterday the snowpack stabilized because of the lower temperatures (below the tree line).
Above the tree line is lots of fresh slab snow to watch out for the next days.
It was snowing over night as well so we could find nice conditions on Mainvasen, Mainplatt, Zwischenabfahrt, Jungbrunntobel, Rendl north face.
We heard that on Rossfall it was super crusty and the Schimmeleck was not good ether.
Snow Forecast:
Next 36 h 150cm Powder
Avalanche risk level 3
Caution: full depth snowslides below 2400 m, fresh snowdrift above 2200 m
Outlook: To begin with, no significant change in avalanche danger

„This is heaven!“ It snowed all day long and more powder will come the next day‘s.
The old snow layer (Galzig to St. Anton) was quite soft and sticky before it started snowing. So on the places where it was skied the last days and the old snow was compact underneath there where perfect skiing conditions.
So we skied today Mainvasen, Mainplatt, Jungbrunntobel and Zwischenabfahrt.
More snow will come and we all look forward for amazing off piste week.
Snow Forecast:
Next 72 h 100cm Powder
Avalanche risk level 3
Escalating avalanche danger – regionally high this afternoon
Outlook: Amidst snowfall and stormy northwesterly winds, avalanche danger will continue to rise

The last sunny day before the next huge dump.
We skied fantastic runs to day with untracked powder.
So we where on the „Rendlspitze“ and skied down to „Pettneu“ and on the „Vorderer Kaltenberg“ going down trough the „Grugl to Verwall“ and in the „Verborgenes Kar“ from the Jörgrinne.
Hoar frost is a perfect gliding layer for avalanches. The crystals where all most 1 cm big.
Snow Forecast:
Next 72 h 100cm Powder
Avalanche risk level 1+2
Favorable touring conditions far and wide, amidst moderate danger
Outlook: Amidst snowfall and wind, avalanche danger will rise slightly on Thursday, noticeably on Friday,

Ski touring time!
If you walk just 30 minutes there is still lots of Powder left.
We skied today in Stuben on the Maroikopf where are still untracked lines to ski.
On the „Erli Alm“ was super good powder as well. The ski touring conditions on Sonnenkopf on the „Eisentälispitz“ where just fantastic. Top to bottom fresh tracks in super powder.
Snow Forecast:
Next big snow fall on Thursday.
Avalanche risk level 1+2
Favorable touring conditions, avalanche danger generally moderate
Outlook: No significant change in the avalanche situation

I love Mondays.
Heli skiing on Mehlsack, Valluga North and Rendlspitze those where the runs where we could find amazing skiing conditions to day.
There is still lots of powder out there.
Snow Forecast:
Next big snow fall on Thursday.
Avalanche risk level 2
The major dangers: fresh snowdrift, gliding snow and high alpine shady slopes
Outlook: Predominantly favourable backcountry touring conditions persist

Snow report St. Anton
Erzberg, Mario-Langen, Sonnenkopf, Maroi Leiten, Toerli, Schafgliger super nice conditions!
Snow Forecast:
Next big snow fall on Wednesday.
Avalanche risk level 2
The major dangers: fresh snowdrift, gliding snow and high alpine shady slopes
Outlook: Avalanche danger is receding, freshly drifted snow is less likely to trigger.

Super skiing conditions in gullies on the lee side of the mountain.
Jungbrunntobel, Gabelrinne, Schimmelegg to Vorderrendl super snow.
The gully runs are all most like a half pipe now. With full speed from one side to the other side of the gully :))))
The top sections where closed because of storm in the afternoon.
Fresh slab snow in high alpine regions are very interesting the next days (avalanches).
Snow Forecast:
Next big snow fall on Wednesday.
Avalanche risk level 3
Caution urged towards fresh snowdrift at high altitudes. Ongoing danger of full depth snowslides
Outlook: For a brief period, caution is necessary towards fresh snowdrift near ridgelines. Otherwise, the situation remains largely unchanged.

Super Powder on Maroikopf, Kühtäli, Knödelkopf, Hinter Rendl.
In Zürs is also super snow like Stierloch, Guggissattel, Erzberg and Gamsroute.
The very top lifts in St. Anton where still closed today (Valluga, Schindlergrat) because of danger from full depth snow slides on steep grassy slopes.
Snow Forecast:
20 cm Powder on Friday !!!!
Avalanche risk level 3
Caution towards full depth snowslides on steep, grassy slopes and steep, shady slopes over 2500m
Outlook: New, small snowdrift accumulations will form, due to snowfall and wind.

Perfect powder and lower avalanche risk level!
Some of the top lifts where open to day.
We skied on Rendl the Rendl north face, Schimmelegg and next to the old Tobellift.
On Galzig Mainvasen, Jungbrunntobel and Zwischenabfahrt.
The way to Mainplatt was still closed because of avalanche risk.
Kapall was closed as well so there are no tracks in the Schoengraben lines.
Snow Forecast:
20 cm Powder on Friday !!!!
Avalanche risk level 3
Beware fresh snowdrift above treeline; snowslides on steep, grassy slopes
Outlook: Avalanche danger continues to decrease

How is that possible?
We ski day after day in perfect powder every day is better than the day before (thats our imagination ;;;)))))).
„Trihöleridi dijidiholleri
Tridihöleri dijidijo
Trihöleridi jijidihojudi
diridijohu di dijidioo“ Königsjodler
To day just the runs on the Gampenbahn, Mainvasen, Zwischenabfahrt, and Massbahn where skied.
There where no tracks on Mainplatt.
The Gampbergbahn on Rendl was closed as well.
On the Mainvasen was on the steep skiers left side a big ground avalanche (between the trees).
Snow Forecast:
In the next 12h 20 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 4
Ongoing high avalanche danger, amidst snowfall and wind, above the treeline in North Tirol
Outlook: Avalanche danger is expected to recede as precipitation and wind subside.

This snow fall is unreal!
All the lifts on the top where closed, even the Galzig gondola and the Rendl gondola.
We skied yesterday the tree lines next to the Gampenbahn in the deepest powder we ever experienced.
More snow is forecasted the next days. The avalanche situation stays very critical.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 48h 100 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 4
Avalanche situation is critical, high danger widespread
Outlook: With newly arriving snowfall and storm strength winds, absolutely NO improvement of the critical avalanche situation!

Another day on „Galzig powder paradise“.
The runs which where skied yesterday like Mainvasen, Mainplatt and Zwischenabfahrt had super good conditions. The snow underneath was compact and the powder on top was awesome to ski.
On all the other runs in St. Anton is the situation much more critical.
The wind was very strong and will increase even more.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 24h 100 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 3
Escalating avalanche danger, accompanied by snowfall and storm
Outlook: High avalanche danger widespread, as snowfall and storm winds persist

There are all ready 2 meters of snow on the Galzig but the big snow dump is just beginning.
On the way to St. Anton it was raining and on the last run from Galzig the powder was with us, again!!!!
But calm down the powder rush, because in the next days the avalanche risk will increase up to 4. So watch out the risk even next to the piste and below the tree line. To choose the right skiing terrain is very important and takes lots of experience. In the afternoon was on the top of Galzig 70 km/h wind.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 48h 100 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 3 above 2200m
Avalanche danger is considerable above 2200 m
Outlook: Amidst snowfall and wind, escalating avalanche hazards: reaching danger level ‚high‘ regionally

Super light powder, sun shine, no wind – perfect.
On Rendl was 20 cm super light powder and a very good base.
In Hinterrendl, Schimmeleck and Rossfall where absolute amazing conditions.
Stuben had a bit more snow fall se we enjoyed the powder lines on the Maroikopf and Albona north face.
Schindlerkar Valluga and Mattunjoch where still closed to day because in the higher altitude where fresh snow drifts.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 72h 100 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 3 above 2200m
Considerable avalanche danger widespread above 2200 m
Outlook: Some precipitation, considerable danger widespread

The snow condition changed very much with the altitude today.
On the very top of the Arlberg ski resort was still good powder.
The Albona north face had some nice powder snow all the way down to 2000 meters.
We chose terrain where we could traverse back to the piste if the snow had a crust on top.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 12h 30 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 3
Considerable avalanche danger widespread, full depth snow slides below 2000 m
Outlook: Amidst snowfall and rain, no significant change in avalanche situation

Over the day fall 10 cm fresh snow without wind influence.
So we skied on spots where the snow was not sun effected from the last days with the exposure north and north east. In those runs was the snow because of the North west wind up to 20 cm with soft snow below ==> NICE!
Stuben and Zuers where not skied to day by because the visibility was really bad on the other side of the Arlbergpass.
Snow Forecast:
In the next 48h 50 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 2 above: 2300m
Danger spots recognizable, otherwise favourable backcountry touring conditions
Outlook:Heavy snowfall accompanied by strong wind will increase avalanche danger in some places. New danger spots in the form of fresh snowdrift accumulations will arise.

The powder was still there.
Even after the warm temperatures from the last days.
So the groups where going to Rossfallscharte, Maroikpf, Rendlspitze Wiesele and Beischlkopf every group reported super powder and perfect conditions.
In the next days the situation will change a little bit.
The next snow front is coming in and heavy snowfall is expected the next days.
So fresh slab snow avalanches will be more possible again compare to the last days.
We all look forward for some tree skiing and deep powder!
Snow Forecast:
In the next 48h 50 cm Powder!!!!
Avalanche risk level 1 above: 2500m
Avalanche risk level 2 below: 2500m
Full depth snowslide danger on shady Main Alpine Ridge slopes above 2500 m
Outlook: The forecast snowfall will heighten the avalanche danger somewhat, requiring renewed caution towards snowdrift accumulations.

A little bit of fresh snow after lunch made the skiing funny and more relaxing compare to the morning. It will snow 40 cm overnight and we are all very excited about that. With the fresh snow the avalanche risk level will increase. This season are many runs just very few skied some of the „regular off piste runs“ where not skied at all so far. So take care the next days and ski very defensive. Avoid the steep NE slopes on Rendl, slopes next to the Knödelkopf in Stuben and TÖRLI next to Schöngraben in StAnton.
Avalanche risk level: 2+3
Snow forecast: 40 cm in the next 24 h
Weather in general: A westerly airstream continues to predominate in Central Europe. A warm front will pass through today, accompanied by stormy high altitude winds, tonight a cold front will swiftly follow in its wake which will cause the snowfall level to drop. Thereafter the air pressure will climb again.
Outlook: Considerable avalanche danger far and wide

40 cm powder over night and sunshine in the afternoon just perfect! All the mayor lines where skied to day. Mainvasen, Mainplatt, Jungbrunntobel, Schimmeleck, Schöngraben, Rendl north face,… all had perfekt conditions.
Avalanche risk level: 3+
Snow forecast: no snow forecast the next 48h
Weather in general: The disturbance will pass through today and provide us with an intermediate high pressure zone tomorrow, Saturday. However the westerly airstream will keep conditions variable even thereafter. Until after New Year’s Day it will remain relatively mild.
Outlook: Treacherous avalanche situation, considerable avalanche danger far and wide

3 Days after the snowfall are the conditions still perfect. We skied fresh tracks in the Langen trees, Michböden,… The conditions on the Valluga are this year not as nice. There are huge snowdrifts in the middle of the Valluga North face and nobody skied it so far this Winter. After the next super sunny days and warm temperatures the snow will stabilize more and it will be better ski (HOPE).
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: 20cm on the 02. 01. 2013
Weather in general: Amidst a westerly high altitude airstream, Tirol’s northern regions will today be brushed by a weak cold front, following which the air current will shift to southwesterly. Over New Year’s the air will be mild and dry. On Wednesday, the next disturbance will swiftly pass through, after which a northwesterly air current will predominante, but it will not turn cold.
Outlook: Avalanche danger will slowly diminish

Super good powder on Sonnenkopf in Kühtäli. The snow there was much less wind effected compare to Lech. Very good snow on Maroikopf, Knödelkopf and the backside from Mehlsack. We had a look on the Valluga to day again. Unfortunately the conditions in the frist top part look still very bad. Snow drifts are all over the place and the snowpack lays on a very hollow Schwimmschneeschicht on the bottom. Valluga bridge couloir has on the very top part no snow at all for about 15 meters so we didn’t ski it.
Avalanche risk level: 2
Snow forecast: 20cm on the 02. 01. 2013
Weather in general: A powerful low pressure system hovers over Central Europe, a high pressure system over Southern Europe. Tirol is wedged between the two fronts in a dry and relatively mild westerly to southwesterly air current.
Outlook: Caution urged towards freshly drifted snow masses above the tree line

Gampberg in to Hinter Rendl
Over night 10 cm fresh powder was fallen on a very nice soft base. To day was a Rendl day because the visibility in Stuben an Zürs was not as good. So we skied Rossfall, Gampberg to Hinter Rendl, Hinter Rendl, Rendl north face, Schöngraben,…
Avalanche risk level: 2
Snow forecast: 20cm on the 04. 01. 2013
Weather in general: A cold front is passing through the Alps. In the coming days an unstable northwesterly air current will form which will be subjected to a high pressure system as of the weekend.
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche danger.

Super nice Powder in Zürs. When we came over at 10. 30 there was not one single track on Erzberg. Even Gamsroute was almost untracked – just amazing. Some other guides went Helisking on Mehlsack to day. The take off was on the Kriegerhorn in Lech and the flight over the Zuger Tal is always spectacular :::))) the conditions on the Mehlsack where absolute fantastic and very easy to ski. Very good snow was found in Stuben on the Maroikopf and in the Nadelrinne in Zuers and further down over Gafri to Stuben.
Avalanche risk level: 2
Snow forecast: 20cm on the 04. 01. 2013
Weather in general: Wedged between a high over the Bay of Biscay and a low over Scandinavia, the Alps are caught in a northwesterly air current. Today a weak warm front will reach us. On Friday and Saturday, northern barrier weather can be expected.
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche danger.

The snowfall line will drop down over day to 1000 meter. St. Anton will get lots of snow in the next 24 h.
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: 20cm on the 06. 01. 2013
Weather in general: The Alps are wedged between cool air masses coming from northeastern Europe and mild air masses over southwestern Europe, in the grip of a very moist northwesterly air current. The precipitation in the barrier zones of the northern flank of the Alps is heavy and will extend over the ridges to East Tirol. Relatively mild.
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche danger.

The avalanche situation stabilized a little compare to the last days. There was 20 cm compact snow with a little layer on top at the Knödelkopf. All the other runs where very challenging to ski. So we did lots of technique training at Schafgliger and Schindlergrat. Its all about have the balance equal on both skis then the skis are not breaking and its good fun to ski;-)
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: no snow forecast yet.
Weather in general: The Alps are still in the path of a concentrated northerly air current into which somewhat drier air masses will temporarily flow today. Over the course of the day tomorrow, Tuesday, the air masses will again become moist from the north.
Outlook: The danger will continue to subside.

With the warmer weather the snow get’s more and more stable. On the Valluga are quite good conditions and below 2600 m the snow is very nice. Close to the top of the Valluga the snow is very hard and just for really confident skiers. Very good snow was as well on the Trittkopf in Züers down to the Pazieltal, on the Maroikopf over the Waterfall route and Gaißleger was very nice for the level 2 skiers to day.
Avalanche risk level: 2
Snow forecast: 20 cm on Friday
Outlook: The danger will continue to subside.

Mild temperatures and very little wind will decrease the avalanche risk level even more. The snow on the Antenne and Valluga west is still very good and some spot still untracked. Very nice snow was on the Rauzhänge next to the Schindlergratbahn, on the very top part of the Milchböden down to the Albonagratbahn and below the Knödelkopf. One group went skitouring on the Hochkar in St. Anton on the Rendlside. The snow on the Hochkar was a little bit wind effected but for a well balanced skier no problem 🙂
Avalanche risk level: 2
Snow forecast: 20 cm on Friday
Outlook: Moderate danger of avalanches will continue

Snow report St. Anton, Rendl, Sonnenkopf
The snowfall in St. Anton all ready started and we expect about 40 cm of powder in the next 24 hours. The avalanche danger will increase and off piste skiing is getting more limited compare to the last days. Because of the flat light tomorrow people will ski below the tree line. Fresh slab snow will be very easy triggered at the top entrance from the Jungbrunntobel, Paggatobel, Törli, from Schimmeleck to Vorder Rendl….
Avalanche risk level: 2 on 10.01 and avalanche risk level 3 on the 11. 01
Snow forecast: 40 cm on Friday
Outlook: Increasing avalanche danger due to snowfall and wind

In the last 24 h St. Anton got about 30 cm of snow:-) in the higher altitude was very strong west wind which was building up huge snow drifts. To day we had very nice ski conditions on the Galizig in Mainvasen, Mainplatt, Jungbrunntobel and on the Rendl side at Rendl north face.
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: 30 cm in the next 96 h
Outlook: Increasing avalanche danger due to snowfall and wind

St. Anton and the Arlberg with Lech, Zuers and Stuben got lots of snow on friday above the tree line. On the Valluga north are in total about 50 descents so the top part of the run is nice to ski in soft snow. Just after the Pazieljoch are plenty of lines still not skied with 30 cm powder. Very nice snow and very little tracked was the Erzberg. From Gampberg to Hinter Rendl, and very high traverse to the Zwölfer as well, fantastic snow.
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: till 18. 01. about 50 cm of fresh snow
Outlook: Wherever there is wind, beware the snowdrift

Again perfekt conditions, on the Valluga below the Roggspitz and Erlispitz all the way down no tracks:-). Super nice powder in Nadelrinne and Gafri down to Stuben. Knödelkopf north down to StChristoph very nice still untracked lines….
Avalanche risk level: 2 and 3
Snow forecast: Till 18. 01. about 50 cm of fresh snow
Outlook: Increasing wind impact will heighten the danger

Over the day we got about 20cm of very dry powder. The wind below 2400 m was very little so there are just small fresh snowdrifts. On Sonnenkopf in Kühtäli, Pfanne from Schimmeleck in to Vorder Rendl, top part of Schöngraben and top part of Rendl north face where very good conditions.
Avalanche risk level: 2 and 3
Snow forecast: Till 18. 01. about 50 cm of fresh snow
Outlook: Despite snowfall, no significant change. Conditions are good wherever there has been no wind; unfavourable wherever winds have been blowing.

Lots of snowfall on the Vorarlberg side of the ski resort. In certain tree lines is more than 50 cm of fresh very dry and super fluffy powder. On the St. Anton side below the tree line are about 10cm of fresh snow. Even in the higher altitude is the snow just very little wind effected. So the skiing will be perfect tomorrow because we have a wonderful day and there will be not one cloud on the sky. The relative relaxed avalanche situation can change very quick with a higher wind influence.
Avalanche risk level: 2 and 3
Snow forecast: Till 21. 01. about 30 cm of fresh snow
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche situation to begin with

What a day beautiful weather and perfekt snow! On the Stuben side we had about 30 cm of fresh super light powder today. So amazing conditions in the Michlböden, Gaißleger, Langentrees. On certain parts of the mountain was the wind stronger than we expected. So the Albona north face was quite wind effected and on the steeper spots behind convex slops where many little slabs. The Lange Leite on the lower part is quite wind effected as well. Very nice powder was on Rendl more little compare to the lower parts of Stuben but very nice.
Avalanche risk level: 2
Snow forecast: 22. 01. about 20 cm of fresh snow
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche situation to begin with. The situation will deteriorate on Sunday as winds intensify.

In the morning beautiful sunshine on certain parts of the Arlberg Skiresort in the afternoon have arrived some snow clouds. Many parts of the mountain had very strong wind influence the last days. Or lets say it in the other way, there are still lots of parts on the mountain with very nice snow. Like in the Malfontal from the Rendlspitze it was perfect.
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: 10 to 20 cm in the next days
Outlook: Avalanche danger will gradually decrease

10 cm of fresh snow over night and over day. The visibility was very changeable to day. On the Stuben north side was all day long a complete white out. On the other side down to Milchböden was good visibility and nice snow. Compact snow with a little bit fresh powder on top and very easy to ski was in the Schöngraben Schimmeleck, Jungbrunntobel,…. On the Sonnenkopf down to Thüringer Alm was an „amazing breakable crust“ with frozen tracks underneath, so its not really worth to go to Sonnenkopf.
Avalanche risk level: 2 and 3
Snow forecast: no snow fall in the next days
Outlook: Avalanche danger will gradually decrease

Perfect snow in the Pazieltal Valluga
Perfekt weather and very nice snow! Very nice snow on Maroikopf down to Langen, Valluga west and north face, Knödelkopf, from Mehlsack in to the Stierloch ….
On certain spots of the mountains we had about 20 cm of fresh snow. Some other off piste runs in the Arlberg resort are very wind effected like the Antenne in Zürs, Erzberg, Erlispitze .. In Stuben are snow drift parts from sunday just a little bit covered so it is not easy to recognize them. The old snowdrifts fell like very hard all most like piste so please ski around them our the faltest line.
Avalanche risk level: 1 and 2
Snow forecast: no snow fall in the next days
Outlook: Predominantly moderate avalanche danger

Lets hit the road, there are still lots of untracked powder runs around in StAnton, Stuben, Rendl and Zuers. Very nice conditions on Maroikopf over Kaltenberg Hütte down to Langen. 50 % of the way down in the Langentrees are absolute amazing with super light untracked powder. Very nice snow on the Rossfall, Malfontal, Wirtschulter, in the Milchböden further left the Bärentobel down to the path.
Avalanche risk level: 1 and 2
Snow forecast: no snow fall in the next days
Outlook: Predominantly moderate avalanche danger

10 to 20 cm of fresh snow over day in St Anton. On the runs with a soft base underneath where really nice to ski. So there was nice snow in the Malfontal, from Gampberg to Hinterrendl Schafgliger…. In the Jungbrunntobel and Mainvasen and Mainplatt is a very crusty and hard layer underneath so it’s not the best choice in the next days. The temperature will increase super strong on wednesday so the whole day will get a little bit crazy in therms of avalanche risk. For example in valleys like Malfontal which are very exposed will be self releasing avalanches possible. It will be the first day of the season where the 0° line is above 3000 m.
Avalanche risk level: 1 and 2
Snow forecast: 20 cm on thursday

Sun in the morning and snowfall in the afternoon. To day we skied the longer off piste runs in the morning. 20cm of fresh powder in the Gaißleger and Langen trees. On the Rendl side and in Zürs was the snow all ready more wind effected and the tracks from yesterday where covered on the way up to Rendlscharte. In the Mitterkar down to the Malfontal was a little wind influence but good to ski. The crusty layer in the Mainvasen and all the other Galzig runs got quite soft with the fresh snow and it was good to ski. In the afternoon it started to snow very strong right now we have on the Galizig minus 2°. So lets hope that the snowfall line is not increasing over night. Anyway, wach out tomorrow!! It will be one of the very important day’s in therms of avalanche danger. The wind from this afternoon, the fresh snow and the temperature increasing will be a very critical avalanche situation on the 30. 01. 2013
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: 20 cm over night
Outlook: Considerable (Moderately to weakly bonded on many steep slopes.
Triggering is possible, even by individual skiers. The bulletin may indicate many slopes which are particularly affected. Medium and occasionally large natural avalanches may occur.) avalanche danger widespread above the tree line.

I don’t remember a day where absolute nobody skied off piste in StAnton and Stuben. The conditions where so bad that it was all most funny again. So for us it was really surprising after a day of practice to get used to the crusty and most heaviest snow you can imagine when our guests said :
Thank’s ……. it was a very good day i learned a lot. So thanks to all our clients to be super motivated on days like that 🙂
We skied just runs very close to the piste like Zwischenabfhart on Galzig and next to the Albonalifts. The conditions will recover it will get a colder and till Sunday we get more than 100 cm of fresh powder. So lets reboot the winter and start again
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: more than 100 cm on Sunday
Outlook: Avalanche danger will diminish somewhat

In the last night we had lots of rain up to 2200 m and the entire mountain was covered with ice. In the higher altitudes like Schindlergrat and Valluga 1, Knödelkopf and very first part of Lange Leite on Maroikopf was compact powder but we really had to search for it. In the following night we have again participation and everything is possible again in the next days. So lets look forward for some nice snow !
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: more than 100 cm on Sunday
Outlook: No significant change in the avalanche situation to begin with

40 cm fresh snow on some parts of the mountains even more. Well the reboot of the winter season 2012/13 is done:-)
We had a wonderful and perfect skiing day and with this amount of snowfall relative safe. So the where below the tree line at the tracked parts from yesterday no slides. Because the snowfall on friday was with a high temperature the new snow could bound quite well with the new layers. Anyway, above the tree line the avalanche situation in StAnton is very critical. On lots of parts was very strong wind and this wind made lots of fresh snow drifts which are absolute to avoid tomorrow. In Stuben it snowed so much that the cars at the parking place where all complete covered.
Avalanche risk level: 3
Snow forecast: 30 cm in the next 72 h
Outlook: Conditions will continue to remain critical in outlying terrain

Over night again 20cm of fresh snow. All groups had a fantastic skiing day, on Rendl where just perfect conditions. So we skied Rendl North face, Schimmeleck, Schöngraben, Hinter Rendl (back of rendl)…. We had the impression that the snow layers from last week bounded quite well together with the fresh snow from the last days.
Avalanche risk level: 2 + 3
Snow forecast: 30 cm in the next 36 hours
Outlook: No significant change in avalanche situation

I sit in front of the computer and try to find some words to explane the skiing today, but i don’t find any for it. Over night it snowed about 30 cm on Galzig and the snowfall went stronger and stronger till the afternoon. So we where flying throw the best powder what StAnton can offer and we could not stop to yell. So we skied Mainvasen, Mainplatt, Jungbrunntobel, Waldschneise, Schimmeleck, Rendl north face, Schöngraben,… Everything below the tree line was just amazing. In the higher altitude was strong wind and we will see the next days how the avalanche situation is developing above 2400 m.
Avalanche risk level: 2 + 3
Snow forecast: 30 cm in the next 36 hours
Outlook: Considerable avalanche danger to continue

Again 20 cm over night and 10 cm over day:-) This time the snow was very little wind effected and perfect to ski. Below the tree line was the avalanche danger in StAnton very low. Accept the top entrance of Jungbrunntobel, Pagatobel and Törli. On this three runs are still the big cornice at the top and above the Törli is the 1500 vertical meter face where self releasing avalanches are always possible. Very good conditions on the back side of Rendl and the Rendl north face. On this runs was the snow pack very stable and super nice to ski as well.
Avalanche risk level: 2 + 3
Snow forecast: 30 cm or more till monday
Outlook: Predominantly considerable avalanche danger

Very good skiing conditions all over the place. Accept the Stuben north face is very wind effected. The avalanche risk level is geting lower as well. So we have below 2300 meter avalanche risk level 2 and above 2300 avalanche risk level 3. Right now the wind speed on Galzig is 20 km/h so the avalanche risk level will not really increase over night
Avalanche risk level: 2 + 3
Snow forecast: very little in the next days
Outlook: Increasing avalanche danger with wind influence

Perfect hero powder in Stuben! Overnight was 10 cm of fresh snow in Stuben and the avalanche situation was very relaxed. Super Powder on the Skitouring trips Sattelgrat and Gamskar, just perfect!
Avalanche risk level: 1 + 2
Snow forecast: 10 cm in the next 24 heours
Outlook: Favourable conditions go on, the major danger continues to be fresh snowdrift.

0 to 20 cm of fresh snow on the night time and over day. In places where the snow was very little skied the last days the snow is still super deep and nice to ski. So there where very nice skiing conditions on Rendl Alm at Zwölfer Kogel in Rendl North face on the skiers very far right hand side, Schafgliger, Rossfall …… The avalanche risk level increased a little bit with the wind on the higher altitude but just very local.
Avalanche risk level: 1 + 2 +3
Snow forecast: 10 cm snow in the next 48 h
Outlook: Favourable conditions go on, the major danger continues to be fresh snowdrift.

What a day, not one cloud and beautiful 10 cm „hero powder“. So there are again perfect conditions all over the place. Like the Antenne in Zuers, Lange Leite in Stuben, Milchböden in Stuben, Wirt down to StChristoph…. Some parts like the Stuben north face are quite wind effected even further to the Kaltenberg Hütte just next to the tree line is the snow in Stuben very light and nice to ski. Perfect ski touring today on Wildebene and Sattelgrat…
Avalanche risk level: 1 + 2
Snow forecast: 10 cm snow in the next 48 h
Outlook: Favorable conditions go on

Lucky the weather forecast was wrong and the cloud came not in today. So we could hike a little bit to the nice off piste and do some fresh tracks. In Malfontal and Scharkopf where amazing conditions. Powder from top to bottom and we were not crossing one track;-). Very good snow on Beuschlkopf and Wirt down to StChristoph. By the way, Maroikopf in Stuben down over the waterfall and Kaltenberger Hütte are still very wind effected. Like yesterday, where very good ski touring conditions and the situation will not really change. Over night we will get again 20 of fresh powder and all the old tracks will be covered again.
Avalanche risk level: 1 + 2
Snow forecast: 20 cm snow in the next 24 h
Outlook: Slightly increasing avalanche danger due to snowfall and wind

Super light 20cm of fresh powder in the last 24 h with perfect skiing conditions. In the morning it was straight away sunny above 2200 meters. So many of the better group levels started with a perfect run down from the Valluga all the way to Zuers was perfect and the snow not wind effected at all. Super nice skiing today in Stuben, Starwars Milchböden, Gaißleger and Lange Leite on Maroikopf where in perfect contions. In general everting further west the Valluga and the Schindlergrat was much more fresh snow.

Snow forecast: 20 cm snow in the next 48 h
Outlook: No significant change in the avalanche situation

I would say the best days of the season so far. The avalanche situation is very stable accept the very rare full snow depth slides the snow is perfect to ski, the weather is very nice and the temperatures are perfect with -10 degrees on the Valluga. So we skied Valluga north and west face down to Zuers and Lech, Erzberg, Antenne, Lange Leite, ….. The ski touring conditions are perfect the next week. So don’t forget to bring your ski touring skis and the skins next week 😉

Yes, live is good to us! Perfect touring conditions all over the place. The avalanche situation is very stable and we will ski some more POWDER the next days!
Avalanche risk level: 1 + 2
Snow forecast: no snow fall till friday
Outlook: The avalanche situation will gradually improve.

Spring snow conditions are beginning. Some corn snow all ready in Stuben and Rendlspitze and on the top secret spots untracked powder.
Avalanche risk level: 1 + 2
Snow forecast: no snow fall till thursday
Outlook: Rising danger during the day

And the powder will come!!!!

Well, what can i say right now about the snow in StAnton???? Today it was in the night time still overcast and the temperature on Galzig was about -2°. Which means that below the tree line is wet and all most unskiable. Above the tree line was the snow on all expo frozen and it was not really softing up at all. So we skied runs with very compact snow like the Schafgliger and Zwischenabfahrt…., anywhere close to the piste, thats all todays!
But wait, we will get more than 50 cm powder in the next 72 hours and the show will start again 🙂
Avalanche risk level: 1 + 2
Snow forecast: 50 cm powder in the next 72 hours
Outlook: Rising danger during the day

Nice conditions above the tree line. In the last 48 hours St. Anton got about 10 cm of fresh snow. So on places like Rendlscharte and Valluga West face is really nice snow to ski off piste.
Avalanche risk level: 1
Snow forecast: it will snow in the next days always a little bit. On monday is a big snowfall
Outlook: Temporarily favourable conditions widespread. Fresh snowdrift is the major peril.

Sometimes we are quite happy that the weather forecast is wrong. Picco did this picture in the Pazieltal on the Valluga. The conditions are very good right now and there is some more snow coming in the next week. In Stuben it snowed over day about 20 cm on the Albona north side. Below the tree line in StAnton was the snow fall more little
Avalanche risk level: 1 +2

Best powder since weeks!!! On some parts of the mountain it snowed more than 30 cm. I personally can not remember a day this season where we had so much sluff in the steeper parts of the mountain. Right now is just very little wind in the higher altitude. So tomorrow will be perfect conditions!!!!!!
Avalanche risk level: 2 + 3

It snowed a couple of centimeters over night there is a little bit more coming on Thuresday and
Friday. At Schindlergrat you can ski the west face with nice compact snow which is perfect for your ski technique training. In the very high alpine region is already some sugar snow in combination with hoar frost. For the next big snow fall it is very important to know this spots and to avoid very high ridge lines in the shade.
